Rochelle Courtenay – An Accidental Social Entrepreneur

Three years ago, when Rochelle read an article in Mama Mia about the shame and embarrassment homeless women face during their periods, she had no idea it would be the first step in a journey that led to the creation of Share the Dignity. A journey that would make a fundamental change in both her life and the lives of many Australian women who live in #period poverty.

Share the Dignity started as a small, local collection of pads and tampons donated to a shelter in Rochelle’s neighbourhood. In just three short years it has grown into a national charity that works tirelessly to provide sanitary items to women, from all areas of life, who cannot afford them. And, through Rochelle, speaks loudly and passionately about this serious social issue and the many ways that Share the Dignity and all those involved work to bring dignity and some happiness to women in need.

The stories Rochelle shares are raw and heart wrenching, but her sensitivity, warmth and passion for the cause make her one of Australia’s most engaging speakers. Her humble, no nonsense approach to finding solutions for some of the most confronting issues in our society leave her audience inspired and motivated to make change.

She is one of the new breed of Social Entrepreneurs, who demonstrate that anyone can be part of the solution and that a little compassion goes a very long way.

When Rochelle isn’t on ‘Pad Lady’ duty she runs her own personal training business, plays competitive netball and spending time with her favourite people – her fiancée and two daughters.
